    DivX to compete with Apple

    divx-media-streaming-device_69.jpg

DivX has presented the prototype of their media streaming device, something that we can compare with the Apple TV. The company has claimed that their prototype is a low-cost, efficient, network media player that runs at 720p resolution.

The device needs to be networked to a computer and software needs to be installed on that PC so that the connection can be made. The company has also done well in designing a bright and an easy-to-use interface. The UI rendering is actually done on the networked computer and is then sent to the player in small files. This is the reason why the company is expecting to sell the device under $99 just after completing a year of production.

DivX has also made use of an API that should allow customers to create their own plug-ins and applications to handle multimedia content. DivXs player will surely be an Apple TV competitor. Apple TV is basically an entry-level computer without an OS. It comes with a CPU, HDD, and a GPU, taking the price tag of Apple TV to $299. DivX has shown the Cupertino giant that the same functionality can come in a cheaper price since DivXs player makes use of the networked computer to do all that.

Nokia 6500 slide Cell Phone Gets FCC Okay

    nokia-6500-slide-cell-phone-fcc.jpg

The Nokia 6500 slide cell phone, which we recently saw on the Whack, has been granted FCC approval, paving its way into the world markets. Equipped with a 3.2 megapixel on-board camera boasting Carl Zeiss optics, the 6500 slide offers a TV-out jack allowing you to make video calls on your TV. It supports microSD memory cards, and a USB interface for data sync. Push-to-talk facility is available as well, but of course your provider should support it.

The Nokia 6500 slide features a 2.2″ QVGA resolution screen. The camera allows you to capture video as well, but I must say I am looking forward to the TV out functionality more than anything. Up to 4GB microSD memory cards are supported on the device. It also supports Nokia Xpress audio messaging (which requires MMS to be activated on the phone). There’s also a full-fledged email client and IM app on the 6500 slide.

Sony Reader convenient but struggling for popularity

For those of us who read lots of books if stack of books is growing day by day and feel could carry your books easily wherever you feel than Sony e book reader may make it convenient for you.

A brand name Sony rarely hopes to get complains, but Sony Reader seems struggling for survival in its reading niche against general purpose competitors like tablet PCs and the iPhone. Sony reader with only memory of 64 MB , it is kind of expensive is limited to getting most ebooks from the Connect ebook store.

The Reader based on E Ink technology itself comes in a smal well organized box with
magnification of text for sight impaired readers and daylight readable high contrast, high resolution near 180 viewing angle. It can store about 80 books for you.

Once the technology gets better and prices drop, the popularity of these ebook reading
    devices will surely rise.

mi VDO FX Digital Video Cam

Anyone can post a video of pretty much anything to YouTube but if youre hoping to rack up the views and number of times your clip gets favorited you better make sure your video is something special. So while were seeing quite a few digital video cameras specifically designed for making web-ready videos (translation: sub-NTSC quality) I dont think any of them will be able to compare to the mi VDO FX.

You see besides having the ability to record a soundtrack directly from an iPod or MP3 player while filming and on-the-go editing the mi VDO FX also includes 18 built-in special effects to further jazz up your production. As to what these effects are I have no idea, but given the images on their website I assume were talking about black & white, sepia, negative and other real-time filters. So if the video of your dog chasing its tail seems to have gone unnoticed on YouTube try shooting it again with the mi VDO FXs negative filter, I guarantee it will hit the sites front page in a matter of hours.

As for useful features the mi VDO FX includes 4x digital zoom, has a 1.5-inch color LCD display and uses SD cards with support for up to 2Gb versions.

Scrolling LCD Watch With Personalized Message Feature

While it lacks the crazy design stylings the TokyoFlash watches are known for this Scrolling LCD Watch will still stand out amongst a sea of boring analog models. It uses two thin LCD displays that will scroll the time and date for one or two different time zones depending on your choosing. Other features include a stopwatch, up to 5 alarms and a stainless steel case that is water resistant up to 30 feet.

Of course theres also that personalized message feature that allows you to scroll any inspirational thought or phrase you program in, as long as its no longer than 5 characters long that is. With a limitation like that the only phrases I can really think of are words like cheap and awful.

Insanely Gorgeous JVC’s 360-degree Quasar Speakers

What do you expect from your pair of speakers? Obviously you want them to fill your entire room with sound. We have come across so many luxury speakers till date with each touting some different technology and design approach. What could be the best option other than a speaker that could create a non-directional 360 degree sound field? JVCs Quasar speakers do the thing. The dodecahedron shaped Quasar is basically a set of 12 speakers that deliver sound equally in all directions. Interestingly the speakers become almost invisible and the only thing you experience is sound and just sound. Pricing is unknown for the moment but I am already imaging a pair of Quasar speakers placed on the corners of my living room.

    Brian The Braasdin Will Educate

For everything Brian The Brain is capable of I think his creators should have spent a bit more time coming up with a friendlier design than a disembodied see-through brain. You see besides incorporating the concise Encyclopedia Britannica, a dictionary, a world history timeline and a wide conversational vocabulary Brian also uses speech recognition technology to answer any questions you ask him. Or you can also use a small keyboard.

Brian can even store a database of phone numbers and when connected to a phone line hell automatically dial your friends just by asking. Hes also chock full of other functions like trivia games, calendars and even an MP3 player when you get tired of learning stuff. I have to admit I was all for this crazy gadget until I read the connects to a phone line part which will in theory allow your Brian to talk to other Brians all over the world and plot their inevitable overthrow of mankind.

So if you want to be part of the destruction of human civilization then by all means get your own Brain.

The lens cover retracts automatically with one press of the camera button and a new mode selector lets you switch quickly between camera, video and picture viewing modes. The regular phone keyboard also has a dual purpose; switch to camera mode and illuminated icons indicate which keys act as short-cuts for the digital Zoom and other functions.

With the new crystal display, the K850 offers optimal clarity from any viewing angle.

Easy to share – Once you have taken your picture it is easy to share the memory. If showing a photo on the K850s large 2.2? crystal bright display, the innovative auto rotate feature will display it in the correct aspect – portrait or landscape – irrespective of the orientation it was taken in. Picture blogging and video blogging allow you to upload your shots and footage at HSDPA speeds to your own blogsite.

Easy to pair – Given the premium look of the K850 Cyber-shot phone, you will want to match it with an accessory that looks just as good. Announced today as an optional accessory, the Bluetooth Headset IV840 fits discretely and securely into your ear. This high-performance headset can leave you handsfree for up to 9 hours of talking. It can pair automatically with the K850 for easy set-up, whilst digital noise cancellation provides for optimum sound quality. So, like the K850, the IV840 does not compromise performance or ease of use.
